About
We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can raise a child and create a better future for them.
Our Vision is to ensure every child receives the right to education
CKE is a non-governmental organisation providing education for school dropouts. The initiative was started in March 2016 after observing kids begging in streets of Hyderabad (KPHB area & Miyapur). As the children weren’t attending school, the parents were approached and encouraged to send children to weekend classes. Without a space to teach, volunteers gathered children under metro pillars and footsteps of McDonalds during weekend mornings to take classes.
This led to wanting to mainstream the children and in order to do so, the educational gap in each child with respect to their age was identified and specific lesson plans were made for these children in order to equip them to join regular school within a period of one year.
Over the years, CKE has been working with approximately 196 children and the success rate in retaining the children in the educational program has been > 75%.
What started as a weekend volunteering service by 10 of us, has now transformed into an employee model with presently 4 teachers working fulltime in the classrooms set up in different slum pockets of Hyderabad to provide continuous and sustained education. This was made possible through CSR funding received from Arcadis Company, individual donors & support by local Police for our social activities.
Additionally, CKE holds an annual event, Spoorthi at Government Schools providing a platform for underprivileged students to showcase their talents in academics, cultural & sports and has seen participation of 1350 students in the last three years prior to covid.
CKE also conducts free medical camps on a regular basis at construction sites where migrant labour communities work. Hundreds of families have received free medical attention through these camps.
CKE’s biggest social impact has been in mainstreaming school dropouts and in providing a better opportunity for some of the children who were previously involved in begging on the streets and child labor activities.
